Butt fusion is a hot melt process that involves simultaneously heating the ends of the two pipe/fitting components to be joined until a molten state is reached on each contact surface. The two surfaces are placed together under controlled pressure for a specific cooling time and a uniform fusion joint is formed. The resulting joint is completely resistant to end loads and has comparable performance under pressure to the pipe itself.
